2007 GNRS Team Nautilus
BURYING THE COMPETITION!
TEAM CAPTAIN RICK PHILLIPS
Most of you know me, but for those that do not... I go by ConfederRick on the
Depot. I have been an avid Treasure Depot fan since being on the Team Nautilus
at the 2001 GNRS. Since that hunt, I have been lucky enough to be at each N/S
hunt and GNRS in some way or capacity. I had no idea of all the great friends I
would make at these hunts, the "Treasure" of the Treasure Depot being the
friendships made. Relics are the bonus!!!
I am Medical Technologist and have been working the night shift since 1986. I
am fortunate in having a beautiful wife and daughter that share my interests in
detecting and Civil War reenacting, having been detecting since 1990 and
reenacting since 1991.
Nautilus detectors have been my main detector since 1995... Just could not find
a better relic hunting machine! My job as Captain of this year’s team is going to
be easy... We don’t need a secret strategy; we don’t need to hype up the
success of our detectors! The only thing needed is for the start of the hunt and
turn us loose!
WE WILL DIG RELICS AND WE WILL TAKE THE TROPHY AGAIN THIS YEAR!!!

Greg Sorrell
I started digging while in college, after that my
company moved me to Jacksonville, NC where I began to
dig in Wilmington, from there I moved to New Bern, NC
and met many great diggers and my digging just got
better. Next came a wife, child and on May 12, 2007 a
second child digging slowed down but I am back and
digging again thanks in-part to some old friends from
Wilmington. Lets Go "Nautilus 2007!"

Keith McIntyre
I live in SE Georgia and I'm a member of the Coastal
Empire History Hunter's Association. I'm a constant
Depot Dweller. I'm looking forward to this GNRS
after
missing the last North/South and Git R Dun. Looking
forward to seeing everyone again. WE WILL FIND
RELICS!
Craig A. Bourne
I have lived in the White oak area of Stafford Co. VA all of my life. I am
married with two children (girl 9- who can handle a shovel with the best
of them and boy 1 who has a hard time using a spoon). I started hunting
with my Grandfather when I was 7, mostly digging for him until he
finally got a new machine and handed the old one down to me. My wife
bought me a DMC 1 12 years ago for a wedding present and she has
regretted it everyday thereafter.
I mostly hunt in and around Fredericksburg and surrounding counties. I
recently acquired a 2Ba and have started to dig with it. It’s hard to get
away from the harmonic tone though.
One thing my Grandfather always told me and I say to myself every time
before I turn the machine on. “You have to have the patience of Job if
you want to find the good stuff”
David Whipp
Hi, My name is David Whipp. I live in Chester, Virginia between historic
Petersburg and Richmond, the Capital. Although born and raised in
Maryland, I moved to Virginia after serving in the Army. I started relic
hunting in the late 1970s with my son who was only a pre-teen at the time
and was a very good shovel carrier. My first machine was a Metrotech and
after a few years I bought my first Nautilus. I’m on my third Nautilus and
currently have a Model DMC-IIBa that I am still learning to use. All of my
hunts have been in Virginia in the vicinity of Petersburg. Unfortunately it
is very difficult to find places to hunt anymore so I’m looking forward to
our trip in September. My first major find was a Hotchkiss projectile; I
also was lucky enough to find a Whitworth. I have several US belt
buckles, breast plates, etc in my small collection.
I am retired and live with my wife, Carolyn. We just celebrated our 43d
wedding anniversary. We have two children, a son and daughter, both
living in this area, and three grandchildren.
Chris Ivers
Home State: North Carolina
I have been digging and collecting since I was 16 years old. I started out
digging coins and quickly gravitated to military artifacts, both dug and
non-dug. As a member of the Army Reserves I have been lucky enough to
relic hunt and scavenge throughout the worlds battlefields while on
different assignments. (The Iraqi helmet in the picture was a battlefield
pickup at an engagement site in Iraq from an abandoned battlefield on the
Iran / Iraq border from my last tour of duty). But Civil War relics remain my
first relic hunting priority with colonial artifacts running a close second!
Christopher Reimann
Hi, I'm Chris Reimann, 44, from Northern Virginia. Husband, Father and
Custom Homes Superintendent. I've been a Relic Hunter since 1998. I love
the thrill of recovery - I'm proud of all of my finds. This will be my fourth
TR hunt. I can't wait to meet you all and join the 2007 Team Nautilus
Champions. We WILL dig relics!
Robert Vaughn
Hello. My name is Robert Vaughn, known on the Treasure Depot as
“relicpro.” My wife says I “live” on the Forum. What can I say? The
Treasure Depot is awesome! Born and raised in South Georgia, I have
been metal detecting with a Nautilus for over 20 years predominantly in
the coastal Georgia area. I also enjoy digging for bottles, flying planes
and studying history.
Over the years I have been fortunate enough to find many nice civil war
relics. My favorite find is my 1830’s Greek Revival home, located in
historic Macon, Georgia, which was spared during Sherman’s March to
the Sea. My beautiful wife, Mary and I are currently restoring our home to
its original glory and love anything old. Mary owns an antiques business
in Macon.
Nothing is better than rescuing lost artifacts and meeting new friends
who share my love for the hobby. I can’t wait to see my old friends and
meet many new ones—Team Nautilus WILL rule again and I am honored
to be a part of it!
Bates Bowers
My name is Bates Bowers, and this will be my fourth GNRS, having been a
member of the 2003, 2004 and 2006 team. I am a twelfth generation
Georgian, born in Savannah, but raised in the Atlanta area where I
currently live with my wife of twenty-four years and my eleven-year-old
son. My wife and I are avid collectors of early Georgia furniture, as well as
other Georgia antiques. When we are not out exploring our home state
looking for antiques and good barbecue, we enjoy being involved in our
son’s Boy Scout troop. My interest in civil war history, Georgia history,
and relic hunting were sparked at an early age from being told about my
great-great grandfather, who served as a Captain in the Eighth Georgia
Infantry, Company H, Tige Anderson’s Brigade.
I bought my first “real” detector in 1979; a Garrett ADS Groundhog that
served me well. Since then I have used the Fisher 1260-X, the White’s XLT,
and the Nautilus DMCII. My current detector is the DMCIIBa. I look forward
to meeting past and new team members, and hope to do my part in having
a successful team this year.

John Smalldridge
I enjoy all aspects of hunting for things from the past. I enjoy the stories
they tell and like to imagine what the times they are from were like. Most of
all I like sharing in the hobby with my
friends.
Ronnie Silverthorn
I enjoy hunting for early american artifacts and digging bottles. I always look
foward to the challenge of a good hunt!

Preston Strickland
I've been relic hunting since about 1994. Nautilus user since about 2004.
I've been to several of these GNRS hunts and enjoy them alot. I'd relic hunt
for a living if I could. My wife is very supportive and enjoys seeing the stuff
I find. I have a 18 month old daughter and look forward to introducing her to
relics. I have found lots of good stuff with Nautilus and hope to take the
trophy again this time.
Melvin Young
I would like to introduce myself -- my name is Melvin Young (Mel NC). I
have been the Senior HVAC Technician at Rex Hospital for 22 years.
I have been metal detecting now for about six years. During that time I have
been involved with Triangle Relic Recovery Club. During the time I have been
in the club, I have held the Vice Presidency two years, President for two
years – looking like it is going to be three years. At this time we have
about 20 active members which gives me the opportunity to see lots of really
nice relics.
I was able to hunt the GRD in 2007. Recovered some really nice ink wells and
other relics. Without the work of Larry and his staff this would not have
happened for me. Thanks Larry and The Treasure Depot. Being on the
Nautilus Team with the lineup of guys on this Team, once again we will rule!
JIMMY CASTEEL
My name is Jimmy Casteel I love digging relics of all kinds.I have been
hunting for several years I done most of my hunting in Tennessee. The last
couple of years I have got to dig a lot of places due to my work transferring
me and my family to Florida and Alabama. I now live in Lakeland Florida
and I am looking for places to dig here. My wife and daughter both like my
hobby and go with me at times.I use Nautilus 2ba for most of me relic
hunting. This will be my third TR hunt. Look forward to digging with all of
you.
Larry Carver

Hey, my name is Larry Carver from Rock Hill, South Carolina. I have
been metal detecting off and on since 1973. In the late 1980's, I visited Jerry
Tyndall( inventor of the Nautilus Metal Detector) in Coats, North Carolina
on my way to Averysborough Battlefield. Jerry asked me if I would like to
use a Nautilus down on the battlefield. I said sure! I scarcely new Jerry
through the Raleigh Club and yet he was really nice to me. A few months
later, I put in an order and Jerry made me a detector at cost since I was
an active member of the club. I went and picked it up and met his wife
Dotty. She too was just as nice as could be. I visited them again on
several different occasions and always looked forward to it. They made me
a part of the Nautilus family and I will always remember their
hospitality. On my third trip out to use the new detector, I found myself in the
deep deep woods at Bentonville Battlefield digging my first Confederate
Buttons. I had never dug a letter button and now I had 14 Block "I's" out
of one small area. What a thrill!! I am looking forward to this years GNRS in a
part of the country I have never been to. It will be fun digging relics with my
friends.
Michael Halas
Hello, Michael Halas is my name, I live in Raleigh, North Carolina with my
wife Deborah. I have been detecting for approximately 5 years now and
enjoy civil war relic hunting. I am extremely excited to have this opportunity
be a member of the 2007 Nautilus Team.
Shannon Cripps
I am Shannon Cripps, this will be my 3rd GNRS on Team Nautilus. I have
been detecting for 15 years, 6 of them with the Nautilus. Lived all over while
in the Navy so I have been able to dig in some unique places. Currently in
Illinois outside of St. Louis, Missouri digging the few relics guys wore
home. Can't wait to see old friends this fall and make new friends.
Colt Johnson

I’m Colt Johnson and the only thing I enjoy more than relic hunting is
spending time with my family at Kure Beach, (Ft. Fisher) for those of you not
familiar with North Carolina. I started relic hunting ~22 years ago when I was
reenacting during the 125th anniversary of the Civil War. Once I dug my first
bullet at the Watson House near Saylor’s Creek, I got the fever. I pretty much
quit reenacting after the 125th and went relic hunting whenever I had the
time. I lost a good friend a couple of years ago to a heart attack. Whenever he
went with me we use to joke about how he was cleaning out all the iron for
me when we hunted. His son sometimes goes with me on a GNRS or
North/South hunt. My uncle tried to get me interested in coin shooting when I
was eleven. If he had taken me to a Civil War or Rev. site there is no telling
what my collection would look like today. I did have a chance to take my
uncle with me hunting a site in Halifax Co. when he was in his mid 60’s. I
hope I can keep on hunting until I’m called home. I moved to Michigan from
North Carolina for a job in 2005 and I have not been able to hunt like I use to.
I look forward to these events because of the friends I’ve made over the years.
I love any hunting site from colonial through the Civil War and I can’t wait to
see what happens at this hunt. I’m always interested in hunting different
areas and with a Nautilus machine you can’t lose. So let’s take the trophy
back to Coats One More Time!!!!!!!!!
Mike Titus
Hi everyone!
I'm Mike Titus ( Pa.-Bucktail ) and I live in Clearfield Pennsylvania. I have
been detecting for six years and have been to every hunt since the Vicksburg
N/S hunt, except one GRD and GNRS hunt. I have had / have several Tesoro
and Fisher detectors, but thanks to Clyde McFadden and Marshall Cain, I
have also added a Nautilus to my arsenal and love the ability of what this
detector can do.
I have always felt privileged to be on these hunts and now to be on " Team
Nautilus." I know most of you are more seasoned hunters than I am, but I
promise I won't let you down. I know we couldn't have asked for a better
team captain than Rick Phillips and from what I see of the team line up, Rick
will be leading another big win for Team Nautilus. The trophy should stay
where it's at now to save on wear and tear, but I guess it needs to be brought
to the hunt for others to see!
I will be looking forward to meeting and hunting with each and everyone of
you.
